Oracle, Broadcom, and SpaceX seek tens of billions in financing for AI compute hardware purchases
According to the Wall Street Journal, Broadcom is seeking over $50 billion to support development of its custom AI chip with OpenAI, Oracle is in talks with Apollo and Goldman Sachs for financing to bridge hardware payment and cloud revenue timing, and SpaceX is pursuing a $40 billion chip financing deal for Nvidia hardware, with a separate FT report indicating SpaceX aims to raise $10 billion in bank loans and $30 billion in investment-grade debt for the same purpose, expected to close in 2027.
Why it matters. These financing efforts reflect major capital commitments by key technology and infrastructure players to secure AI compute capacity, affecting semiconductor demand, cloud infrastructure investment, and data center expansion plans.
