Large protests over French school conditions lead to injuries and arrests

More than 250,000 pupils, teachers and parents demonstrated across France in a campaign for improved high school conditions. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said at least 215 teenagers and 85 school staff had been injured since protests began; authorities reported nearly 500 arrests and 43 injured police officers.

Why it matters. The scale of the demonstrations and reported injuries and arrests show a significant disruption affecting France’s education system, students, staff and public order.
