Project Star plans 6.47 GW gas plant and 5 GW data center in Texas
The U.S. Department of Commerce and project partners announced plans for Project Star, a $22 billion gas-fired power project in Encinal, Texas, designed to supply an adjacent 5 GW data center and send remaining power to the Texas grid. The first stage is expected in 2029, with full capacity targeted for 2032; the partners also project 8,400 construction jobs and 170 permanent power-campus jobs.
Why it matters. The project would add substantial generation and data-center capacity in South Texas, with potential effects on regional electricity supply, infrastructure, investment and employment.
