24/7 Trading Grows but Liquidity Lags

U.S. overnight equity trading volume rose 359% year-on-year in August 2026, but still accounted for only 0.9% of total National Market System share volume. Ten stocks accounted for 43.4% of overnight share volume, compared with 10.3% during regular hours.

Why it matters. Brokers and financial institutions must adapt their infrastructure and risk management to support longer trading hours, as market conditions are far from uniform.
