China-Peru FTA upgrade protocol takes effect
The upgraded China-Peru free trade agreement protocol entered into force on November 1, 2026, adding new chapters on standards, competition policy, e-commerce, global supply chains and environment, while refining existing rules on origin, customs, sanitary measures, IP, services, investment and temporary business travel. The pact aims to deepen trade and investment ties between the two economies.
Why it matters. The protocol expands regulatory coverage and reduces trade costs for Chinese and Peruvian firms, reinforcing China as Peru's top trade partner and creating new opportunities in services, investment and supply-chain cooperation.
