DOJ closes investigation of Vistra's acquisition of Cogentrix after divestitures

The U.S. Department of Justice closed its antitrust investigation into Vistra's acquisition of Cogentrix Energy, stating that Vistra's divestitures of the Casco Bay Energy facility and Cogentrix's gas-fired combined-cycle plant will preserve competition and save New England consumers tens of millions annually in electricity bills.

Why it matters. Consumers in Maine, New Hampshire, and across New England benefit from maintained competition in electricity generation, reducing the risk of higher bills during winter heating season.
