Ohio man convicted for lying about involvement in Rwandan genocide

Eric Tabaro Nshimiye, 54, was convicted by a federal jury on four counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice for concealing his participation in the 1994 Rwandan genocide to obtain U.S. citizenship. He lied during the 2019 Boston trial of Jean Leonard Teganya and previously lied to immigration officials in 1995 to enter the United States as a refugee.

Why it matters. The case underscores ongoing U.S. efforts to hold accountable individuals who concealed genocide participation to gain immigration benefits, reinforcing accountability for serious human rights violations.
