Anthropic seeks rehearing of Pentagon AI blacklisting appeal in D.C. Circuit

Anthropic has petitioned the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to rehear its appeal challenging the Pentagon's designation of its Claude AI models as a national-security supply chain risk, which blocks defense contractors from using the technology. The company argues the designation was retaliatory for its public AI-safety commitments and refusal to enable mass surveillance or lethal autonomous warfare. The D.C. Circuit upheld the blacklisting in a 2-1 decision in September.
