Hurricane Isaias Disrupts U.S. Gulf of Mexico Oil Production and Refining Capacity

Hurricane Isaias has forced the shutdown of about 1.3 million barrels per day of U.S. Gulf of Mexico crude production, roughly 63% of Gulf output, and threatens to limit around 2% of national refining capacity by affecting refineries in Mississippi and Alabama. The storm has already caused significant delays in tanker traffic and could further constrain fuel supply as refineries operate near full capacity.

Why it matters. The disruption reduces U.S. crude supply and refining output, potentially tightening global fuel markets and affecting diesel prices worldwide.
