FAA and EASA Issue Warnings on Saudi Airspace Amid Military Activity

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration warned airlines on October 11 that military activity and navigation system interference over Saudi Arabia could threaten aircraft at all altitudes, and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency expanded the areas of Saudi airspace it advises carriers to avoid after Houthi missile and drone attacks reached deep inside the kingdom. Neither regulator has banned overflights, but the warnings affect the use of Saudi airspace as a key corridor for Europe‑Asia flights.

Why it matters. Western airlines that rely on Saudi airspace as an alternative to Russian, Iranian, and Iraqi airspace must adjust routes, increasing operating costs and potentially reducing flight availability for passengers.
