U.S. Department of Energy to lend $4.4 billion to restart three shuttered nuclear plants

The U.S. Department of Energy is providing up to $4.4 billion in loans to restart the Palisades, Crane Clean Energy Center (Three Mile Island), and Duane Arnold nuclear plants, aiming to restore 2.25 gigawatts of capacity. The initiative responds to rising electricity demand, including from data centers, with two plants already securing contracts with Big Tech firms for carbon-free power.
