NASA to Conduct Low-Altitude Flights Over Texas Farmland to Measure Agricultural Emissions
NASA will conduct low-flying research flights using a Dynamic Aviation A200 aircraft over farmland near Transit, Texas, from October 22 to November 9, 2026, to measure gaseous and particulate emissions from animal feeding operations as part of the FarmFlux mission. The mission, led by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Colorado State University, and Boston University, will deploy over a dozen sensors to study ozone, methane, ammonia, and other pollutants from livestock and crop lands.
Why it matters. This research addresses a critical gap in understanding agricultural emissions, which are a significant but understudied component of Earth’s atmospheric and land systems, with implications for climate modeling and air quality policy.
