EU adds nearly 1,600 new sanctions listings targeting Russia's military-industrial complex
The European Union adopted nearly 1,600 new sanctions listings targeting Russia's military-industrial complex, with more than half linked to ballistic missile production chains, as announced by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. The EU Council also extended its chemical weapons sanctions framework until October 30, 2031, and individual listings under that framework until October 30, 2027.
Why it matters. The expanded sanctions increase pressure on Russia's ability to produce and sustain weapons used in the war in Ukraine, affecting defense supply chains and international trade with Russian military entities.
