Federal Reserve holds benchmark rate at 3.75%-4.0% amid persistent inflation

The FOMC voted 10-2 to maintain the federal funds rate, with dissent from Governor Lisa Cook and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack who favored a hike, as inflation remained at 3.7% in September. The market anticipates a rate hike before year-end.

Why it matters. The rate hold provides short-term relief for commercial real estate borrowers, but expectations of a December hike and rising Treasury yields continue to pressure lending conditions and property valuations.
